National Picnic Week: What to Wear for a Perfect Picnic

It's here folks. Arguably one of the best weeks of the year, National Picnic Week has dawned on us. And this summer heatwave couldn't have come at a better time.

Dust off those picnic baskets, wash your picnic blanket and get out those fold-up chairs from the back of the garage because it's time to head to the park and fill your boots with all the best picnic food one can buy!

And why not dress for the occasion too? A floaty dress, a quirky pair of shorts, co-ord sets for the kids - we have just what you need for family fun in the sun.

For starters, the setup. Head to Pinterest for all the inspiration if you're after making it a very picture-perfect affair. There's lots of ideas as to what food to make or bring, how to style up your picnic blanket, and tips and tricks to make it a wonderful day.

For the girls

Head to the park in casual pieces that still have that feminine flair. Practical and simple yet stylish, you'll look the part without drawing too much attention.

Our best bet is a jersey dress. Our selection of flattering feminine prints mean there's something for every kind of woman and being made from jersey, they're both comfortable and durable for being out and about in.

Giving feminine a spirited uplift, our Threadbare satin dresses in gorgeous Turkey-inspired prints are the perfect button down midi dresses for your spring summer wardrobe. They'll double up as pretty picnic dresses - picture perfect!

Our top picks:

Style them with a rattan cross-body bag, a basic denim jacket and you're favourite pair of trainers.

What to pack in your picnic basket

All you need is easy-to-make food or pick-up-from-the-supermarket- friendly snacks for your picnic. Bringing basket-style bags, some pretty paper plates and napkins, and a gorgeous gingham picnic blanket makes for a perfect setup.

Imagine tucking into this delectable High-Tea & Mighty picnic hamper below from The Luxury Picnic Company while floating about the park in your Threadbare 'fit. Gorgeous. Pick up your hamper here: High-Tea & Mighty - The Luxury Picnic Company.

For your little one

For your girl, pick up a cute co-ord outfit or one of our matching sets so that they're prepared for a play about in the park, but can also keep warm with a cute hoodie.

For the boys

For the boys in your life, kit them out with casual essentials that are just perfect for those spontaneous picnic days. Most men are in a grab-and-go mindset when it comes to dressing to leave the house, and no doubt your boy won't be able to sit still, so opt for easy dressing co-ords and matching sets.

Picnics call for a great and durable pair of shorts that are easy to lounge about in but also suitable for playing catch with the kids and/or your dog. If they fancy something smarter, especially if it's more of a date, then a shirt in a floral yet contemporary print is a nice injection of style without being too over the top.

Perhaps your picnic in the park is your ideal day date with your hubby. We've spotted just the grub for you to pack away and surprise him. Treat him to this 'Pub in a Box' platter from Pique. Pick one up here: The Ultimate Ploughman's Picnic | PIQUE (piquefood.co.uk).

For your little one

Kit your boy out with essential picnic-practical pieces so they can run around and have fun, but also sit comfortably. Co-ord sets in comfortable cotton are perfect and they can show off their personality by adding a cap or a pair of retro sunnies. For a smarter affair, treat them to a new shirt and pair it with chino shorts. This outfit will double up as a great wedding guest outfit throughout the summer months and beyond.
